Ledger.com/Start — Ledger Wallet Setup Guide
Quick Start: Protect Your Crypto in Minutes
This guide walks through the Ledger wallet setup process step-by-step: unbox your hardware wallet, install Ledger Live, create a PIN, write down your recovery seed phrase, and test a small transfer. Keywords: Ledger Wallet, Ledger.com/Start, hardware wallet, Ledger Live, seed phrase, secure your crypto.
Step 1 — Unbox and Inspect
Open the package and verify the tamper-evident seals. Confirm the device matches your purchase. Keep the original box and packaging for later storage.
Step 2 — Install Ledger Live
Download and install Ledger Live on your computer from the official source. Ledger Live will let you manage apps, add accounts, and update firmware.
Step 3 — Initialize Device & Create PIN
Follow device prompts to create a secure PIN. Never share your PIN. The PIN protects the device if it is lost or stolen; choose a unique numeric code you can remember easily but others cannot guess.
Step 4 — Write Down Your Recovery Seed
The device will show a 24-word recovery seed (your backup phrase). Write the seed on the supplied card and store it offline, in a safe location. Do not photograph or store the seed digitally. This seed is the master key to your crypto.
Step 5 — Install Apps & Add Accounts
Use Ledger Live to install currency-specific apps on your device (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum). Add accounts in Ledger Live to view balances and prepare transactions.
Step 6 — Test with a Small Transfer
Send a small test transaction to confirm everything works. Verify the address on your hardware device screen before confirming in Ledger Live. Confirm on-device to avoid phishing.
